In the fourth edition of the Himalayan Rally held in India, Nepalese rider Deepak Sah emerged victorious in Group D, specifically in the Royal Enfield category. He represented Nepal riding a Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 motorcycle.
The rally took place from October 2 to 6, 2023, traversing approximately 600 kilometers from Manali to Rohtang Pass, Kaza, and Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India. This thrilling off-road motorsport event is known for its challenging terrains, unpredictable weather, and the iconic Himalayan routes.
Participants faced tough geographical features, including the challenging Kunzum Pass, which rises to an altitude of about 4,551 meters. The rally tested riders’ skills and endurance as they navigated some of the highest passes and steep rocky tracks.
During the prize distribution ceremony, Suresh Rana, Chief of Himalayan Extreme Motorsports and a 12-time Red Bull Himalayan and other rally winner, presented the trophy to Deepak Sah. In a show of national pride, Sah accepted the trophy wearing a traditional Dhaka topi and carrying the Nepali flag.
The event is registered with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), affiliated with the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Participants are required to adhere to various FIM and FMSCI regulations, and winners are determined based on the Time, Speed, and Distance (TSD) format.
Deepak Sah, an experienced and passionate motorcyclist, rode the Royal Enfield Himalayan 411, a bike known for its stability, toughness, and performance in difficult conditions. His successful completion of the event not only represents Nepal but also highlights the growing talent and enthusiasm for motorsports in the country.
The Himalayan Rally is an international event that attracts top riders from around the globe, providing a platform to test riders’ skills and the endurance of their machines in some of the most extreme terrains on Earth. It challenges both physical and mental stamina as participants navigate high-altitude passes, steep mountain tracks, and rocky roads.
After his victory, Deepak Sah expressed his excitement, stating, “I feel honored to have represented Nepal in this prestigious event and to have won. Riding the Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 gave me the confidence to tackle the challenging terrains of the Himalayas, and I want to promote my country through motorsports globally.”
Deepak has been riding Royal Enfield motorcycles since childhood, influenced by his father’s ownership of one since 1980, which fueled his passion for the brand.
He also participated in the Red Bull Himalayan Rally in 2017 and 2018, as well as the Himalayan Rally of Chamba in 2022, and has previously won in the Royal Enfield category in the 2018 Red Bull Himalayan and the Himalayan Rally of Chamba.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 is ideally suited for such adventurous journeys, with its 411 cc engine adept at handling off-road conditions, long-distance travel, and high altitudes. The bike’s reliable and comfortable design helped Deepak conquer the treacherous and intimidating roads of the Himalayas.
