Kathmandu: The much-anticipated orientation day for the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) and Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) programs at Texas College of Management and IT concluded with a sense of inspiration. Themed “Technology and Sustainable Development: The Role of BIT and BCS,” the event brought together prominent technology experts who shared valuable insights on how IT can propel progress and sustainability in Nepal.
Experts Highlight the Transformative Power of IT
During a lively panel discussion, Ram Krishna Pariyar, Vice President of Subisu Internet, urged students to reflect on the rapid digital advancements that have occurred since 2065 B.S. “The IT sector is the backbone of positive change in Nepal,” Pariyar stated, highlighting how technological infrastructure has transformed the nation.
Chiranjibi Adhikari, General Secretary of the CAN Federation, delivered an inspiring message, connecting the potential of Nepal’s youth in the tech sector to the country’s internationally recognized symbols, such as Mount Everest and Lord Buddha. “The opportunity to elevate Nepal’s global presence in IT lies in your hands,” Adhikari declared. He also announced that the CAN Federation is working on launching finishing school programs to bridge the skill gaps between academic education and industry requirements.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Saroj Shakya from the Nepal Police shared insights on the increasing incorporation of IT in governance and law enforcement. He emphasized how young tech innovators could transform public services by enhancing efficiency and effectiveness. Similarly, SP Deepak Raj Awasthi highlighted the rising threat of cybercrime, urging students to stay vigilant and proactive about cybersecurity.
Ganesh Ghimire, a prominent fintech expert, discussed the intricacies of financial technology. “Fintech is an emerging and challenging area, particularly due to the complexities of cross-border data transfer,” he noted, pointing out the opportunities and challenges in the fintech landscape.
Academic Leaders Emphasize the Importance of Education
Dr. Suman Thapaliya, Head of the Department at Texas College of Management and IT, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence. “Texas College serves as a platform for academic excellence in Nepal’s ICT sector,” Dr. Thapaliya stated, emphasizing the college’s role in shaping future IT leaders. Program coordinator Rohit Pandey added, “ICT for youth empowerment is grounded in a strong academic foundation and professional skills.”

The orientation concluded with a call to action for students to utilize their IT knowledge for sustainable development. The event underscored that BIT and BCS programs are not merely academic pathways but essential contributors to building a secure and progressive digital landscape in Nepal.
