Kathmandu– North Korea launched two missiles off its eastern coast within a span of three hours, marking its second missile test in approximately one week. According to South Korea’s Ministry of Defense, the first missile was fired around 3:00 PM from the Wonsan area toward the East Sea, traveling roughly 450 kilometers, and is presumed to belong to the Hwasong-11 series. About three hours later, North Korea launched another unidentified projectile; if confirmed as a missile, it will mark two consecutive tests within three hours. Japan’s Ministry of Defense also indicated that the first launch appeared to be a missile, with Japanese media reporting that it fell outside Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
In response, South Korea, the United States, and Japan are actively sharing information regarding North Korea’s latest activities, while South Korea’s National Security Council condemned the launches and called for an immediate halt to such provocative actions. This follows a previous missile test on September 12, as Pyongyang continues to criticize joint military exercises between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan, alleging that they heighten tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Reinforcing this stance, Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, stated on Friday that U.S.-led military drills were worsening regional instability, confirming that Pyongyang will not deviate from its policy of expanding its nuclear weapons capabilities.
