KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has directed its Central Disciplinary Commission to launch an immediate internal investigation into allegations against party lawmaker Khagendra Sunar that have surfaced in the media.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, party General Secretary Bipin Acharya said the party had taken note of published news reports, publicly circulated audio recordings and serious questions raised concerning Sunar.
According to the statement, the allegations involve conduct that could undermine women’s dignity and respect, inappropriate pressure, unwanted threats and suspicious financial transactions.
The party said such allegations against its members or elected representatives could not be treated lightly, stressing its commitment to the rule of law, good governance and public accountability.
The RSP also reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct against women, violations of official responsibilities and criminal offences.
The statement further said the party would cooperate with state authorities in investigating the allegations against Sunar.
The party has also barred Sunar from participating in public events, according to media reports.
The allegations came to public attention after Janastha published a news report on Monday featuring an audio recording in which Sunar was allegedly heard using abusive language and threatening a woman.
The allegations have not been independently established, and the internal investigation is expected to examine the matter further.
