As 2024 comes to a close, Triumph, a new motorcycle brand, entered the Nepali market this year. The official distributor of Triumph for Nepal, Hansraj Hulaschand & Company, showcased some Triumph models for the first time at the NADA Auto Show 2024 held in August.
Soon after, in the first week of Kartik, Triumph Nepal set a record by delivering 200 units of motorcycles to customers at once. This was a significant achievement, especially considering the current economic slowdown in Nepal, which has affected vehicle sales.
Since then, another 300 units have been delivered, bringing the total number of Triumph motorcycles sold in Nepal to over 500, according to the official distributor Hansraj Hulaschand & Company.
In the Nepali market, two Triumph models— the Triumph Speed 400 and the Triumph Scrambler 400X— have been launched. The price of the Triumph Speed 400 is set at NPR 639,900, and the Triumph Scrambler 400X is priced at NPR 689,900.
Although Triumph motorcycles are officially available in Nepal now, some units were informally imported and used by customers before. Earlier, only heavy bikes were produced by Triumph, but with the launch of the 400cc series, demand for these motorcycles has grown in Nepal.
Triumph motorcycles are becoming increasingly popular in India. In recent times, sales of the brand have increased by around 17% compared to last year.
In the Nepali market, Triumph has set a new record this year. Not only one, but multiple models from Triumph have become the preferred choice for many riders due to their unique features.
Popularity in the Mid-Segment
Triumph has filled a gap in the Nepali market by offering motorcycles that appeal to riders looking for something beyond the commuter segment. While many young people in Nepal still aspire to go abroad, a growing number of them are opting for Triumph as their brand of choice. The 400cc motorcycles have become a popular option due to their affordable pricing and suitability for those who want to experience a mid-range bike.
Moreover, even individuals above the age of 40 are finding these models appealing. For fans of James Bond movies and various social media enthusiasts who admire Triumph bikes, owning one has now become a feasible dream.
Suitable for All Roads
Whether on city roads or off-roading, Triumph bikes prove to be versatile and practical. They have become a favorite among adventure enthusiasts. Compared to other bikes in the adventure segment available in Nepal, Triumph offers unique features, including compact design and powerful performance, making it a popular choice in this category.
Tax Benefits
Triumph’s two models in the Nepali market, the Triumph Speed 400 and the Triumph Scrambler 400X, both feature 398.1cc engines. According to Nepal’s tax structure, vehicles with an engine capacity between 251cc and 400cc incur a tax of NPR 12,000 in Bagmati Province. For bikes with engines between 401cc and 650cc, the annual tax is NPR 25,000. This means that Triumph motorcycles are taxed NPR 13,000 less than other bikes in the 400cc and above category. In some provinces, the tax rate may be even higher, making Triumph bikes an attractive option for customers.
Only Two Servicing Required Per Year, Maximum Charge of NPR 4,500
Due to the use of BS6 engines, semi-synthetic engine oil, and various technical features such as sensors, ECUs, traction control, and switchable ABS, Triumph motorcycles only require servicing twice a year. The same models available worldwide are also available in Nepal, meaning these bikes need servicing just twice a year. The servicing cost is also very low, with all maintenance tasks completed for around NPR 4,500. This not only saves money but also saves time.
Attractive Financing Option, Pay Only 50% Initially
For purchasing Triumph motorcycles, Hansraj Hulaschand & Company offers an in-house financing facility. Through Hulas Finserv, buyers can pay just 50% of the price upfront and pay the remaining amount in monthly installments with an interest rate of 9.99% over a period of three years.
