Kathmandu – In the wake of the recent protests on 24th Bhadau, the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) has reported significant damage to its offices, homes, and businesses.
According to the party’s General Secretary, Shankar Pokhrel, 64 party offices across the country were vandalized, and over 158 residences and businesses belonging to party leaders and activists were severely impacted.
Pokhrel made the information public after compiling internal reports from various districts. Among the damaged properties were the central office in Chhetrapati, as well as residences of top leaders including CPN-UML President KP Sharma Oli in Balkot, Senior Vice President Ishwor Pokhrel, and General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel himself. These properties were targeted with arson and destruction during the protest.
Pokhrel emphasized that, as per initial reports, the damage was widespread, affecting not only party offices but also the private properties of leaders and members. Many of these locations are now undergoing cleaning and repairs, with party workers volunteering to restore the offices and homes in a selfless manner.
“The damage caused in the name of protest—whether through mysterious fires or vandalism—is being swiftly addressed by party workers who are actively engaging in repair and cleaning work,” Pokhrel said. He reassured that the party’s commitment to safeguarding the nation, the constitution, and the federal democratic republic remains firm. Despite the setbacks, he stressed that the entire party cadre is reinvigorated and determined to defend their cause.
