Kimathangka: An agricultural project has been launched with the introduction of modern technology, especially to increase cash crops and fruit.
Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts have implemented the project by declaring themselves as cardamom and orange super zone areas. It is in effect at 10 local levels of Sankhuwasabha and six local levels of Bhojpur for six years, according to Navraj Gurung, chief of the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Project Implementation Unit.
The programme covers 2,313 hectares of land for cardamom super zone and 687 hectares of land for orange super zone. Project unit chief Gurung mentioned that irrigation infrastructures and improved modern cardamom furnace construction programme were prioritized for this year to increase cardamom and orange production in the super zones.
In the current fiscal year, Rs. 2 million is allocated for capital expenditure and Rs 40 million towards current expenditure.
Similarly, the Project Implementation Unit Sankhuwasabha has kept irrigation infrastructure, modern furnace construction and connection programme in priority for the current year.
It was shared that Rs 7 million is allocated for construction of irrigation infrastructure while Rs 4.6 million for construction and installation of modern furnaces, Rs 2.5 million for establishment of cardamom crop primary processing industry, Rs 2.1 million for establishment program of mini moisture storage for oranges and Rs 2.1 million for expansion orange crop zone.
In the current year, 24 other programmes have also been approved. The Cardamom Super Zone programme has been conducted in 32 wards under of 10 local levels in Sankhuwasabha and 30 wards of six local levels in Bhojpur.
The Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Project, Project Implementation Unit has been providing support to the farmers in the agricultural sector including cardamom, orange, rice, corn, wheat, potato, vegetables and fishery.
