Myagdi . A long-awaited road connecting Myagdi district to Dhorpatan of Baglung has finally been opened, marking a major milestone in regional connectivity. The newly constructed road track is seen as a crucial alternative route to the Baglung section of the Mid-Hill Highway and is expected to serve as a lifeline for the residents of Mangala, Malika, and Dhawalagiri rural municipalities in Myagdi.
Known as the Beni-Darwang-Muna-Jaljala-Dhorpatan road, the route provides a shorter and more efficient connection from Kathmandu and Pokhara to Dhorpatan and further to eastern Rukum via Benighat.
The Road Division Office in Baglung, with a federal budget allocation of Rs 50 million, has successfully completed the road track from Dhawalagiri-2, Mereni to Jaljala in Dhorpatan. Chairperson of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality, Prem Prasad Pun, informed that around nine kilometers of road has been constructed through forest terrain above Mereni leading to Jaljala.
“A 10-kilometer dirt road from Dhorpatan to Jaljala was already in place, and the new section now extends connectivity further,” said Pun. “While the dozer has reached Jaljala, vehicular movement will only be possible after the road is leveled and made suitable for transportation.”
The road construction had initially begun from Beni nearly 27 years ago. So far, approximately 64 kilometers of track from Benighat to Jaljala, passing through Muna, Khoriya, and Mareni, has been completed.
Once fully connected from Benighat to Takshera in eastern Rukum, the road is expected to reduce the travel distance by up to 70 kilometers compared to the existing route via the Baglung section of the Mid-Hill Highway, providing a faster and more accessible transportation corridor for the region.
