Kathmandu- U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a ‘Peace Board’ has reached consensus for the complete disarmament of all armed groups in Gaza, including Hamas. A senior Hamas official also stated that they have agreed to fully surrender their weapons in accordance with the plan.
Hamas informed that an official statement regarding this matter will be released shortly. However, Israel has not yet offered any official response on the issue.
Taking to social media, Trump stated that Israeli troops will withdraw from Gaza once the disarmament process is complete. He hailed this as a “major step” toward establishing governance in Gaza through a new Palestinian government.
Under the second phase of the U.S.-brokered Gaza ceasefire plan, the disarmament of Hamas and the reconstruction of Gaza are included. Describing the deal as a major milestone in implementing his 20-point plan, Trump noted that it would be executed in phases.
According to him, once disarmament is accomplished, an international stabilization force alongside a new Palestinian police force will oversee security in Gaza. Trump also expressed gratitude to Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for playing roles as mediators.
Preparations are reportedly underway for a meeting of mediators in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, to discuss the implementation of the ceasefire plan’s second phase. Although reports of significant progress in talks between Hamas and mediators in Cairo surfaced earlier, an Israeli official remarked that the proposed terms were unacceptable to their country.
Following Trump’s announcement, Israeli media claimed that an agreement had been signed between Hamas, the Peace Board, and mediating nations. However, the Israeli side expressed dissatisfaction, arguing that the proposed disarmament plan does not align with Jerusalem’s demands.
Earlier, Israeli media outlets had also published reports indicating that Israel was not favorably disposed toward the prospective agreement with Hamas.
