Kathmandu – In Makassar, Indonesia, protesters set fire to a regional parliament building, leading to the deaths of three people and injuring five others.
According to reports, protesters were accused of igniting the building, and some individuals were injured while attempting to jump from the building during the fire.
Recently, widespread protests have erupted across several Indonesian cities over the issue of increased salaries and allowances for lawmakers.
On Friday, tensions escalated when a police car ran over and killed a delivery driver riding a motorcycle, which sparked further outrage among the protesters. In response, they threw stones and fireworks at police and government buildings. The police deployed tear gas to disperse the crowds.
Regarding the death of the driver, seven officers have been taken into custody. Reports indicate that more than 200 people have been injured during these protests. Indonesian President Joko Widodo has urged citizens to maintain peace and has ordered an investigation into the incident.
He also visited the family of the deceased driver to offer his condolences.
This incident has highlighted growing frustration and anger in Indonesia, with calls for the government to address public grievances and prioritize the welfare of its citizens.
