Kathmandu – The government is reportedly preparing to suspend the passports of top leaders from major political parties, including the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN-Maoist Centre.
The move is said to be part of an investigation into the crackdown during the JNJi movement on Bhadra 23 and 24 (early September), as well as related corruption cases.
Sources indicate that the government has placed particular focus on former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, along with current Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, who are both under close surveillance.
As public pressure grows for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those deemed responsible for the violent suppression of the JNJi protests, discussions within the government about restricting the international travel of these high-profile figures by suspending their passports have surfaced.
