KATHMANDU | Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has accused the United States of violating the recently established peace agreement, stating that US President Donald Trump’s signature holds no credibility.
In a message addressed to the nation, he claimed that by breaking the agreement, the US has exposed its true character. According to him, this serves as further evidence that America’s behavior is driven by lies, untrustworthiness, and stands in direct violation of international commitments.
Khamenei also warned that if the United States continues its attempts to incite war, it will have to pay a severe price. He stated that if American aggression persists, Iran and its allied forces will deliver a response that the US will never forget.
According to the peace agreement signed on June 18 by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump, both countries had agreed to hold talks within 60 days to finalize a conclusive treaty. However, following recent developments, tensions between the two nations have escalated significantly once again.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, announced that Iran has suspended the implementation of all its obligations under the said agreement. In an interview with state television, he accused the US of breaching all its commitments, stating that the possibility of dialogue has now ended, and Iran’s entire focus is centered on national security.
He claimed that a strong response to the American aggression has already been delivered, adding that the US must abandon the path of escalating further tension and make a prudent decision instead.
Over the past week, the United States has launched repeated airstrikes targeting military bases and infrastructure in southern regions of Iran. The US stated that these attacks were carried out to ensure the safety of commercial vessels transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.
In retaliation, Iran stated that it has targeted US military bases in Jordan and certain Gulf countries using missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). On Saturday, Kuwait and Bahrain reported that their air defense systems successfully neutralized the Iranian attacks. However, the attacks reportedly caused damage to a major oil hub, as well as power generation and seawater desalination plants in Kuwait
