Kathmandu – A young man, who became a viral sensation during the recent Gen Z protests for his intense confrontations with the police, has been arrested for the brutal murder of his own mother.
The accused, 30-year-old Yam Bahadur Kandel from Thapakateri in Tripurasundari Municipality-5, Dhading, has been charged with the murder of his 55-year-old mother, Ram Maya Kandel. According to the police, Yam Bahadur brutally killed his mother with a sharp weapon late on Sunday night. He was apprehended at the crime scene, with the weapon still in his possession.
Yam Bahadur had gained widespread attention during the protests on August 23-24, where he was seen in viral videos delivering emotionally charged lines like, “I am afraid in my eyes, look, I am scared. Shoot me, I cannot bear to see this country weep.” These statements had earned him a considerable following on social media. However, the shocking news of his mother’s mur*der has now left the entire village in fear and disbelief.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the community, as the same individual who once rallied for a cause now stands accused of a heinous crime against his own family. The police continue their investigation into the case.
