Kathmandu – The Henley & Partners Passport Index 2025 has just been released .
Singapore has once again claimed the title of having the world’s most powerful passport, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 193 countries.
In a surprising shake-up, the United States has slipped out of the top 10, landing at 12th place, down from 10th last year. South Korea and Japan secured the second and third positions, with access to 190 and 189 countries respectively.
European nations like Germany, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland follow closely, while Canada ranks 9th, and Latvia and Liechtenstein share the 10th spot. On the other end of the spectrum, Nepal’s passport has dropped to 101st, down from 95th in the previous index, allowing visa-free travel to just 36 countries.
Regional neighbours have also seen declines, with India falling to 85th, China to 64th, and Bangladesh and Pakistan at 100th and 103rd respectively. Afghanistan, with visa-free access to only a handful of countries, remains at the bottom at 106th place.
The rankings are based on data from the International Air Transport Association and consider how many countries a passport holder can enter without a prior visa, reflecting real-time changes in global visa policies and mobility trends.
