Kathmandu. U.S. President Donald Trump has once again expressed his obsession with the Nobel Prize. Trump wrote a letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, complaining about his failure to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
In the letter, Trump mentioned that following Norway’s decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize, he no longer feels compelled to think solely about peace.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas stated: “Trump’s message arrived Sunday afternoon, at a time when he and Finnish President Alexander Stubb were protesting U.S. tax increases on eight European countries regarding Greenland.”
Prime Minister Støre noted that it was Trump’s decision to share this message with other NATO leaders. Støre added: “Norway’s stance on Greenland is clear. Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and Norway fully supports the Danish state on this issue.”
Regarding the Nobel Prize, he said: “In the context of the Nobel Peace Prize, I have explained to everyone, including President Trump, that the prize is awarded by the independent Nobel Committee, not by the Norwegian government.”
In his letter, Trump stated: “Peace is necessary, but now I will also consider what is in the best interest of America. One of the reasons for my effort to merge Greenland into the U.S. is the failure to obtain the Nobel Peace Prize. This is also influencing my decisions.”
Signs suggest that Trump is attempting to use Greenland as a means to secure the Nobel Peace Prize. After he imposed a 10% tax against eight countries advocating for Greenland, Europe is preparing to reconsider trade agreements with the U.S. and is moving to counter the move.
