A tragic aviation accident in the rural region of Norte de Santander, northeast Colombia, has resulted in the deaths of all 15 people on board. The aircraft belonged to Satena, a government-owned airline.
Local authorities and rescue teams were dispatched immediately to the crash site to search for survivors; however, the Colombian Ministry of Transport later confirmed that there were no survivors among the passengers or the crew.
The flight disappeared from radar shortly after departing from the city of Cúcuta at 11:42 AM local time on Wednesday. The plane was bound for the town of Ocaña, a journey through a mountainous corridor that typically takes about 40 minutes. Communication with air traffic control was lost only a few minutes into the flight.
The manifest confirmed that the aircraft was carrying 13 passengers and two crew members at the time of the incident.
Among the victims was Diógenes Quintero, a prominent representative for the victims of internal armed conflict in the region. His death has caused significant grief and concern among local residents who valued his advocacy.
While investigations are underway, authorities have not yet determined the official cause of the crash, as they continue to analyze the wreckage in the difficult mountainous terrain.
