U.S. President Donald Trump has strongly dismissed recent reports regarding his connection to the late Jeffrey Epstein, describing the release of millions of Department of Justice (DOJ) documents as a political “hoax” designed to damage him. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One and posting on Truth Social, Trump insisted he never visited Epstein’s private island and characterized the financier as “not a friend.”
He alleged that the newly released emails actually prove that Epstein and author Michael Wolff—known for the book Fire and Fury—were conspiring to harm his political career as far back as 2016. Trump went as far as threatening legal action against both Wolff and the Epstein estate, claiming the files “absolve” him and instead expose a plot by the “Radical Left” to interfere with his success.
Trump also turned the focus back on his political rivals, accusing prominent Democrats and their donors of being the ones who actually frequented Epstein’s island. While the DOJ files contain numerous mentions of Trump’s name, his legal team and supporters argue that the context consists mostly of external discussions or “sensationalist claims” rather than evidence of misconduct.
Trump maintains that he cut ties with Epstein in the early 2000s—long before Epstein’s 2019 arrest—and continues to frame the ongoing public interest in the files as a desperate attempt by Democrats to deflect from their own political failures.
