Kathmandu: U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected a third proposal presented by Iran regarding the cessation of hostilities. He stated that the 14-point proposal was not worthy of acceptance. The proposal suggested a ceasefire within 30 days and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, after which negotiations between the United States and Iran regarding the nuclear program would commence.
In the proposal, Iran also mentioned halting uranium enrichment for 15 years, with a limited resumption thereafter. Iran had delivered this proposal to the U.S. through Pakistan last Thursday. This was part of the ongoing negotiations between the two countries following a ceasefire that came into effect in April. Previously, Trump has rejected at least two other proposals.
Meanwhile, Trump has announced a new initiative called “Project Freedom.” The plan is expected to launch shortly. Under this initiative, the U.S. will assist in safely escorting foreign ships stranded in the Hormuz region. According to Trump, many countries have requested assistance, noting that these vessels are neutral and innocent parties caught in the conflict.
He also mentioned that some ships are beginning to face shortages of food and essential supplies. He warned that the U.S. would respond strongly if there is any interference with this humanitarian mission. On the other hand, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a sharp response, stating that Trump must choose between an “impossible mission or a weak deal.” Furthermore, Iran claimed that the perspectives of China, Russia, and Europe are now shifting against the United States.
