A severe snowstorm on the East Coast of the United States has disrupted daily life, affecting millions of people and forcing the cancellation of thousands of flights. According to the National Weather Service, some parts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts have seen nearly 37 inches of snow, while Central Park in New York City has recorded over 19 inches.
The latest reports show that the highest snowfall occurred in Providence, Rhode Island, where 37.9 inches of snow was measured. In Whitman, Massachusetts, snowfall reached 33.7 inches, while in Central Islip, New York, it was 31 inches. Other areas like North Stonington in Connecticut saw 30.8 inches, and Lyndhurst in New Jersey experienced 30.7 inches of snow.
In West Virginia’s Point Mountain, 22.5 inches were recorded, while Lower Makefield in Pennsylvania had 22.1 inches, and Long Neck in Delaware saw 21 inches. Maryland’s Bishopville recorded 16 inches, and Camden-on-Gauley in Virginia saw 15 inches. Other areas like Goodwins Mills in Maine had 13 inches, Dover in New Hampshire saw 9.5 inches, and Guilford in Vermont recorded 4.2 inches of snow.
Travel in New York has been nearly impossible, with authorities issuing warnings. Over 600,000 homes and businesses in the East Coast region, especially in New Jersey and Massachusetts, have lost power due to the storm.
According to the flight tracking website FlightAware, more than 5,706 flights within and into the US have been canceled. Logan International Airport in Boston reported that 92% of departures were canceled on Monday, and the snowstorm is expected to continue affecting the region on Tuesday. Over 2,000 more flights are expected to be canceled, with airports in Boston and New York being the most impacted.
