Kathmandu – At least 39 people were killed in a single day following intensified Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, the continuous bombardment focused on southern regions, resulting in numerous civilian casualties. In the southern town of Saksaquieh, at least seven individuals, including a child, lost their lives. Local media also reported a separate strike in the city of Nabatieh, which claimed the life of a Syrian national and left his 12-year-old daughter critically injured.
In a retaliatory move, Hezbollah launched explosive-laden drones into northern Israel, injuring three Israeli soldiers. The Israeli military confirmed that while several drones were intercepted by air defense systems, others successfully crossed the border, with one soldier reported to be in serious condition. The military further stated that they managed to destroy multiple projectiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) aimed at their troops stationed in southern Lebanon.
Commenting on the stalemate, political analyst Rania Khalek noted that there has been no tangible progress toward peace negotiations. She observed that the Israeli government appears to realize the Lebanese state cannot force Hezbollah to disarm, nor can the Israeli military fully eliminate the group. While Israel possesses the power to inflict massive destruction, Khalek argued that complete disarmament remains unlikely.
She also critiqued Donald Trump’s involvement, suggesting that any peace initiatives might be treated as a “political performance” for global optics, emphasizing that true peace is impossible as long as Israel maintains territorial control and continues its bombing campaign in Lebanon.
