Mr. Chandi Raj Dhakal, President of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), led a high-level delegation to Xi’an, China, where he participated in a series of meetings and field visits aimed at strengthening cooperation between South Asia and China in the fields of herbal medicine, traditional healthcare, research, innovation, and trade.
The visit included strategic discussions with leading Chinese herbal industry representatives and stakeholders on opportunities for collaboration in herbal cultivation, processing, research, technology transfer, and market development. Mr. Dhakal emphasized the importance of fostering partnerships that can contribute to sustainable economic growth and promote the rich heritage of traditional medicine across the SAARC region.
The delegation was warmly hosted by Ms. Sun Shen, Vice Chairperson of Caozien Company, who facilitated meetings and accompanied the delegation during visits to the company’s herbal processing facilities and medicinal herb farming areas. The delegation was briefed on advanced cultivation techniques, quality assurance systems, and sustainable production practices adopted by the company.
Mr. Zulfiqar Butt, Secretary General of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the immense potential for cooperation between SAARC member countries and China in the herbal and natural medicine sector. He stressed the importance of institutional partnerships, joint research, capacity building, technology transfer, and trade facilitation to strengthen regional value chains and create new opportunities for businesses, farmers, and entrepreneurs across the region.
The event was attended by several distinguished Chinese dignitaries and prominent personalities, reflecting the importance of the engagement and the growing scope of cooperation between China and the SAARC region. Among the notable participants were Prof. Ma Zhi Guo, Professor of Law at Xi’an Jiaotong University and Director of the Xi’an Intellectual Property Research Institute; Mr.Song Shaopu, Party Secretary of Tangyu Town, Lantian County, Xi’an; Mr. Wang Baoguo, Director of the Xi’an Tax Inspection Bureau; Mr. He Junfeng, a frontline war correspondent, national hero, renowned scholar, and respected critic of paintings and calligraphy; Mr. Chen Yan,
President of Shenzhen and Hong Kong-listed companies; and Mr. Zheng Hong, Chairman of Xi’an Dao Tong Taibai Seven Medicine Research Co., Ltd. Their participation added significant value to the discussions and demonstrated strong support for enhancing cooperation in herbal medicine, innovation, intellectual property protection, investment, and sustainable economic development.
The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to deepen collaboration, encourage investment, facilitate knowledge exchange, and explore joint initiatives that can benefit both China and the SAARC region. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dhakal expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Chinese hosts and reiterated the SAARC Chamber’s commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships that contribute to regional prosperity and mutual growth.
The visit marks an important step in strengthening economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties between South Asia and China while opening new avenues for cooperation in the rapidly expanding herbal and natural medicine sector.
