Kathmandu: Himalaya Airlines, Nepal’s international carrier, has resumed direct scheduled flights between Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) in Shanghai, China, effective September 28, 2026.
The resumed service began with a flight departing Kathmandu at 7:11 PM Nepal Standard Time on September 28 and arriving at Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 2:36 AM Chinese Standard Time on September 29.
The return flight departed Shanghai at 4:36 AM Chinese Standard Time on September 29 and landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at 8:13 AM Nepal Standard Time on the same day.
With the resumption of the route, Himalaya Airlines is currently the only commercial carrier operating scheduled direct flights between Kathmandu and Shanghai. The service reconnects Nepal’s capital with Shanghai, one of China’s major international business and financial centres.
Initially, Himalaya Airlines will operate two flights per week on the Kathmandu–Shanghai–Kathmandu route. Flights from Kathmandu will operate every Monday and Friday, while return flights from Shanghai will operate every Tuesday and Saturday.
The airline said it will assess passenger demand and load factors before considering an increase in flight frequency.
The direct air service is expected to provide more convenient travel between Nepal and Shanghai while strengthening connectivity between the two countries. The airline said the route also reflects its commitment to providing convenient, safe and efficient international travel and is expected to contribute to further people-to-people connectivity between Nepal and China.
