Kathmandu: Political leaders and parties from six countries, including China, India and Bangladesh, have extended their best wishes for the success of the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention.
Those sending written messages include Nitin Nabin, president of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Mallikarjun Kharge, president of the All India Congress Committee.
The messages expressed hope that the longstanding political relations between their respective parties and the Nepali Congress would continue and become stronger in the future.
In its message, the BJP expressed condolences over the recent natural disasters in Nepal and said India would continue its support for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The Communist Party of China also sent a message wishing success to the Nepali Congress convention. It expressed confidence that relations between the two parties and between the peoples of China and Nepal would grow stronger.
Pedro Sánchez, president of the Socialist International and Prime Minister of Spain, has also sent a message congratulating the Nepali Congress on its 15th General Convention, Nepali Congress General Secretary Pradeep Paudel said.
Sánchez sent the message in his capacity as president of the Socialist International, rather than as Spain’s prime minister.
He said he had wished to attend the Nepali Congress convention but was unable to do so because of previously scheduled engagements.
Sánchez expressed confidence that the convention would provide an opportunity to strengthen democratic and progressive forces in Nepal.
He also expressed deep sorrow over the recent devastating floods in Nepal and extended his sympathy to those affected. Describing the floods as a global warning about the devastating impacts of climate change, he stressed the need for greater collective efforts to address the challenge.
Sánchez also praised the Nepali people for facing difficult circumstances and the Nepali Congress for working to support communities and promote democracy and social progress.
Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Prime Minister of Bangladesh, has also extended his best wishes for the success of the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention.
Responding to an invitation from the Nepali Congress to attend the convention, Rahman conveyed his wishes for the successful organisation of the event in Kathmandu.
He said he highly valued the longstanding friendly relations between the Nepali Congress and the BNP and noted that Bangladesh attaches importance to further strengthening friendly relations and people-to-people ties between Nepal and Bangladesh.
Rahman also recalled that his father, former Bangladeshi President Ziaur Rahman, had emphasised expanding friendship and cooperation among South Asian countries. His message noted that Ziaur Rahman’s initiatives helped lay the foundation for the establishment of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
Referring to Nepal as an important member of SAARC and the host of the organisation’s secretariat, Rahman recalled that his mother, former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, and former Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala had represented their respective countries at the SAARC forum as prime ministers.
Rahman said he also wished to continue that legacy of regional cooperation in South Asia.
He extended his best wishes for the success of the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention and congratulated the new leadership to be elected by the convention.
Similarly, Chung Eui-yong, chair of the Standing Committee of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in South Korea, and the UK’s Labour Party have also sent written messages wishing success to the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention.
