Kathmandu : Dr Barbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary to Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, is arriving in Nepal today for a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening development cooperation between the two countries.
According to a statement issued by the German Embassy in Kathmandu, Kofler will focus on German-Nepali cooperation in women’s rights, healthcare and post-flood recovery, particularly in areas affected by the Bhote Koshi floods.
During her visit, she is scheduled to hold meetings with representatives of the Nepali government, civil society organisations, and international and local development partners. The discussions are expected to explore ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in development and humanitarian assistance.
Germany has provided €11.061 million in response to the Bhote Koshi floods. The assistance is intended to support immediate humanitarian relief as well as long-term recovery and reconstruction efforts in affected areas.
As part of her itinerary, Kofler will visit Nuwakot to assess the impact of the floods and meet local government representatives, healthcare professionals and affected residents. The visit will provide an opportunity to understand the challenges faced by flood-affected communities and review ongoing recovery needs.
In Kathmandu, she will visit health facilities supported by German Development Cooperation. She will also engage with government officials and civil society representatives working in the health sector to discuss cooperation and development priorities.
Germany remains a development partner of Nepal, supporting initiatives in areas including healthcare, social inclusion and sustainable development.
Kofler is scheduled to return to Germany on October 31.
