Kathmandu: Laxmi Sunrise Bank continues its commitment to women’s empowerment through its latest initiative, ‘Shikshit Laxmi’ (Educated Laxmi) – a consolidation of various CSR activities and programs done by the Bank to actively support the cause of girl child education over the years.
This initiative aligns with the Bank’s objective to create a more equitable and inclusive society, empowering women to pursue their aspirations and contribute significantly to the nation’s development.
The Bank’s latest effort under this initiative is a partnership with Samata Education Trust – a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide NPR 3.5 million over seven years that facilitates annual scholarships to socially and economically disadvantaged girl students at Samata Schools across the nation.
In a yet another MOU arrangement with Kathmandu University, the bank has established a scholarship for women pursuing Masters or Ph.D. degrees in STEM subjects at the University. Under this agreement, the bank pledged NPR 10 million over the next five years to establish an endowment fund to provide scholarships for deserving and economically challenged women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
The number of female students receiving this scholarship will gradually increase over the years.
Currently, the scholarship is benefiting Ms. Irada Subedi (Engineering/M.E. Structural Engineering) and Ms. Sunena Nyachhyon (Science/M.Sc. ES) for the class of 2024 at Kathmandu University.
The Bank has also collaborated with Nepal Police to establish a similar endowment fund for deserving female students studying in Police schools. Additionally, the Bank has been providing support to girl students in various fields and conducting campaigns to uplift women.
These efforts reflect Laxmi Sunrise Bank’s steadfast commitment to its ‘Shikshit Laxmi’ initiative and unwavering dedication to promoting education and empowering women in society. The initiative is a key component of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy – advancing Gender Equality and uplifting women across various sectors.
