Kathmandu – The French government has demanded clarification from Charles Kushner, the U.S. Ambassador to France, after he accused France of failing to prevent growing incidents of anti-Semitic hate crimes.
Kushner, in a statement, claimed that since the start of the Gaza conflict, incidents targeting Jewish communities in France had significantly increased. In response, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs completely rejected his allegations, calling his comments unacceptable.
Charles Kushner, who is Jewish, is also the father-in-law of Ivanka Trump, the daughter of former U.S. President Donald Trump. He had previously written an open letter to French President Emmanuel Macron, published in the Wall Street Journal, where he reiterated his claims about the rise in anti-Semitism in France since the conflict began.
The French government has strongly contested the accusations, stating that such remarks are without merit and go against the nation’s values of secularism and inclusivity. The diplomatic tension comes amid an ongoing debate about the impact of international conflicts on domestic issues like anti-Semitism and religious intolerance.
Kushner’s remarks have sparked a heated public discussion, both in France and the U.S., with political leaders on both sides weighing in on the sensitive issue.
