Kathmandu : Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Shakti Bahadur Basnet, has said the country recently witnessed significant and quality development in the energy sector.
In his address to a programme organised in his farewell at the Ministry today, the Minister said the long-term power trade agreement and the agreement to supply 10,000 megawatts of electricity to India were the major accomplishments of his term.
He added that such achievements are capable of opening avenues for the nation’s prosperity and strengthening the economy.
The Dhalkebar Inaruwa 400 kV transmission line and the other half a dozen substation and transmission line projects were completed and the implementation of some projects is in progress during his term.
As he argued, accelerating the projects of national pride and expanding the irrigation facilities were the priorities during his term and their results would be visible after some years. As he said, this government aims to extend irrigation facilities to additional 1,000,000 hectares of land.
Works are in the final phase to proceed with the implementation of the Upper Arun and Dudhkoshi Hydropower Projects, according to the Minister who pledged full cooperation in the implementation of the projects initiated during his stay at the office, despite moving to a differing position.
Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi and Secretary of the Water and Energy Commission, Keshab Kumar Sharma, were also present on the occasion.
