This collaboration marks a significant step towards fostering excellence in Nepali sports and aligns with UTS’s commitment to promoting a culture of inspiration, growth, and community engagement.
Nabita Shrestha, a trailblazer in Nepali Table Tennis, stands out as a nine-time national champion in table tennis. Her achievements include consecutive wins of the women’s singles title from 2067 to 2080(Nepali Calendar), showcasing unparalleled skill and resilience. Nabita has also made her mark on the international stage, she is participating in prestigious events like the South Asian Games, Asian Games, World Table Tennis Championship, and Asian Championship.
The decision to partner Nabita Shrestha falls in line with UTS’s history of supporting athletes representing Nepal at esteemed international competitions. Mr. Suryansh Vaidya, Director of UTS, expressed confidence in Nabita’s potential success with her resilience attitude towards sports excellence.
The President of the Nepal Olympics Committee (NOC), Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha commended UTS for their role in supporting local athletes. This acknowledgement is a crucial step forward in closing the gap on local athletes’ qualification journey towards prestigious games like the Olympic Games. He further added that the partnership between Toyota and Nabita provides positive impact which motivates local sports talents while also putting Nepal on the global map.
This partnership makes her the first Nepali player to represent a globally renowned brand. She will join over 200 other athletes worldwide representing Toyota as Global Team Toyota Athlete (GTTA) under the ‘Start Your Impossible’ global initiative that highlights real-life mobility stories of athletes who demonstrate the values of humility, hard work and never giving up.
Hailing from Kirtipur, Nabita’s journey transcends the sports arena. She symbolizes success, balancing family roles and pursuing an outstanding sporting career. Her commitment extends beyond the game; as she actively engages in social work, ranging from supporting earthquake victims to aiding a child with AIDS. Her initiative focuses on fostering connection among aspiring athletes by challenging gender inequality.
