Hyundai Motor Company has reached a remarkable milestone, celebrating the production of its 100 millionth vehicle worldwide. This achievement, realized in just 57 years since the company was founded, positions Hyundai among the fastest-growing automotive manufacturers globally. A special ceremony was held at the Ulsan Plant in South Korea to commemorate this significant event.
As a gesture of appreciation for its loyal customers, Hyundai presented its 100 millionth and first vehicle—an IONIQ 5—directly to a customer during the handover ceremony at the plant’s shipping center. The event included a celebratory display titled ‘100 million and 1’, symbolizing Hyundai’s ambition to continuously push beyond its past achievements.
Reaching the 100 million vehicle mark underscores the invaluable support from customers worldwide who have been with Hyundai since its inception. The company attributes its rapid growth to a commitment to bold challenges and constant innovation, which will pave the way for reaching the next milestone of 100 million more vehicles.
The Ulsan Plant, operational since 1968, is pivotal in the history of the Korean automobile industry, famously producing the country’s first mass-produced model, the Pony, in 1975. Today, it serves as a central hub for electrification efforts, with plans for a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) facility on-site.
“Every employee at Hyundai Motor has played a crucial role in reaching this 100 million production milestone through their dedication and hard work,” stated Dong Seock Lee, President and Head of Domestic Productions and Chief Safety Officer at Hyundai Motor Company. “This landmark event is just the beginning of our journey toward leading the electrification era.”
This landmark achievement comes on the heels of Hyundai’s steady growth, driven by the launch of its premium Genesis brand, the high-performance N series, and successful EV models like the IONIQ 5, which utilizes the dedicated electric global modular platform (E-GMP). The company’s global presence has expanded significantly, with manufacturing facilities in Turkey, India, the U.S., and the Czech Republic, achieving a remarkable production milestone of 50 million vehicles by 2013.
In the past year, Hyundai has furthered its innovative capabilities by establishing the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), which serves as a smart urban mobility hub. Here, advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and smart factory solutions are being developed for future production sites, including the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), aimed at maximizing manufacturing efficiency. Hyundai continues to evolve and expand, committed to excellence and innovation in the automotive industry.
