KATHMANDU: Government has decided to award the members of Nepal National Football Team, who participated in the SAFF Championship, with a cash prize of Rs 500,000 each.
A meeting of the Cabinet held on Monday made a decision to this effect. The coaching staff will also be awarded with Rs 300,000 each, according to government spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Kakri.
Nepali football team made it to the final of the tournament for the first time in the 28-year history of the championship. Coach Abdullah Almutairi’s side however suffered 3-0 defeat against India in the final match held on Saturday evening.
Kiran Kumar Limbu-led side started the campaign with two consecutive wins one against the hosts Maldives (1-0) and the other against Sri Lanka (3-2). Though they lost to India in the group-stage match, ensured their place in the final after a draw against Bangladesh.
