Kathmandu: The 18th National Information Day is being celebrated throughout the country today by organizing various programmes.
The Day commemorates the occasion of the enforcement of the Right to Information Act, 2064 which ensures the constitutional right to every citizen to seek and get information.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli asserted that it was crucial for citizens to have an easy access to public information and State affairs so that democracy would be institutionally developed and good-governance promoted.
PM Oli expressed the confidence that the flow of right information would boost citizens’ participation in governance system and give legitimacy to the system.
Chief Information Commissioner Mahendra Man Gurung, in his message of best wishes on the occasion, underscored on making the implementation of the Right to Information more effective. He also urged all the public bodies to actively fulfill their responsibilities and make other bodies do the same in the implementation of the RTI.
The National Information Commission (NIC) has affirmed that political parties and leaders, public officials, RTI activists, media persons, civil society have an important role for the effective implementation of RTI.
Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav will be the Chief Guest at the main programme the NIC is organizing on the occasion today, it is stated.
