kathamandu . Amateur golfer Rahul Biswakarma surged to the top of the leaderboard after the third round of the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship—the eighth and final event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2024-25—at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club on Wednesday.
Rahul delivered a stellar 6-under 66 to register a 54-hole total of 16-under 200, giving him a one-stroke lead over defending champion Subash Tamang. Subash, a professional golfer competing on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), carded a bogey-free 5-under 67 to finish the day at 15-under 201.
Nepal’s top-ranked amateur, Sadbhav Acharya, remained in contention after also posting a 5-under 67 for a three-day total of 13-under 203, placing him in third.
Tied for fourth at 11-under 205 are Niraj Tamang and Nepal’s top-ranked professional Bhuvan Nagarkoti. Niraj shot a 4-under 68, while Bhuvan produced the best round of the day with a brilliant 8-under 64, significantly climbing the leaderboard.
Bhutanese amateur Nim Dorji Tamang holds sixth place overall and ranks third among the amateurs with a total of 8-under 208, following a 2-under 70 in the third round.
Dinesh Prajapati stands seventh at 7-under 209 after scoring 4-under 68. Three professionals—Sukra Bahadur Rai (3-under 69), Sanjay Lama (2-under 70), and Rabi Khadka (1-under 71)—are tied for eighth at 3-under 213.
Rahul had an exceptional front nine, playing bogey-free and carding birdies on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 7th holes to go 5-under 31. On the back nine, he dropped a shot on the 11th but responded with birdies on the 15th and 18th, finishing at 1-under 35.
Subash maintained consistent form, carding three birdies on the front nine (3rd, 4th, and 9th) to go 3-under 33, and added two more birdies on the 12th and 13th for a 2-under 34 on the back nine.
Sadbhav’s round was eventful, including a bogey-free 4-under 32 on the front with birdies on holes 2, 3, 7, and 9. Despite a double bogey on the 11th, he made an eagle on the 12th and closed with a birdie on the 18th to finish strong.
The 72-hole championship features 37 professionals and 18 amateurs. As the season’s most lucrative event, the total prize purse is Rs 1.6 million. The champion will receive Rs 300,000, while the runner-up and third-place finishers will earn Rs 185,000 and Rs 125,000, respectively. The fourth and fifth place will bag Rs 105,000 and Rs 92,000. Cash prizes will also be distributed among the top 21 professional golfers.
The tournament will conclude with a Pro-Am event scheduled for June 21. It will feature 25 pros and 100 corporate-level amateurs, providing an exciting platform for emerging talents to gain competitive experience.
