Kathmandu: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas under the Gaza peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
He called for transforming the ceasefire into a lasting peace while expressing concern over the need for economic assistance in Gaza. Guterres said, “The United Nations and its partners are carrying out relief operations at a rapid pace. They are reaching areas that had been cut off for months.”
However, he noted that the needs remain immense and emphasized that continuous access and financial support are crucial. Guterres further stated, “I urge everyone to strengthen this ceasefire and turn it into a sustainable peace.”
The Gaza peace plan was signed during a summit held in Egypt on Monday, attended by leaders from more than 20 countries.
