Kathmandu. Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has announced a software update for thousands of its aircraft.
The cause is said to be intense solar radiation, which is said to affect data needed for flight control. It is believed to affect about 6,000 aircraft worldwide.
Several airlines around the world, including American Airlines, Delta, Air India and Wizz, have reported that their services have been affected by the software update.
Air India has issued a travel advisory regarding delays in scheduled operations due to the Airbus directive. Air India said – “We are aware of the Airbus directive relating to its A320 family aircraft currently in service with airline operators.
This will result in software/hardware realignment for a portion of our fleet, which will result in longer turnaround times and delays to our scheduled operations.”
London’s Heathrow airport has said that its flight operations will not be affected, while Gatwick expects some problems.
British Transport Minister Heidi Alexander said the impact on British airlines appeared to be limited, and advised passengers to contact their airlines for more information.
