Kathmandu. Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has stated that she met with President Donald Trump and presented him with her Nobel Peace Prize.
President Trump praised Machado’s move, saying: “Maria is a wonderful woman who has been through so much. Maria presented me with her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done. It is a wonderful sign of mutual respect. Thank you, Maria!”
This was the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders. Recently, the U.S. military detained Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in the capital, Caracas. Since then, Venezuela has been governed by Acting President Delcy Rodríguez. Delcy served as the Vice President of Venezuela during Maduro’s regime.
Trump has declined to support Machado regarding the leadership of the Venezuelan government. Machado’s movement had claimed victory in Venezuela’s 2024 elections, which were widely disputed, and had declared her the new leader.
