Quoting a Taliban government spokesperson, Afghan media outlets claimed that they have several bodies of Pakistani soldiers in their custody and have seized 19 military outposts and one military headquarters. According to Afghan officials, some Pakistani soldiers were captured alive, and a significant cache of weapons and military equipment was seized.
In response, Pakistan launched a counter-offensive, conducting airstrikes in various regions including Kabul and Nangarhar. The Pakistani government claims that 133 Afghan Taliban fighters have been killed so far, with over two hundred injured. Additionally, they reported destroying 27 outposts and taking control of nine others.
The Afghan Ministry of Defense, however, stated that eight of its personnel were killed and 11 were injured in the Pakistani airstrikes. Reports indicate that the fighting subsided around midnight, approximately four hours after the clashes began.
Tensions remain high in border areas including Nangarhar, Nuristan, Kunar, Khost, Paktia, and Paktika. Relations between the two neighbors have become increasingly strained following consistent border skirmishes in recent months.
Pakistan has long accused groups operating against its territory of using Afghan soil as a base, a charge that the Taliban government continues to deny.
