Kathmandu: It has been reported that the United States and Iran are close to a theoretical agreement to end ongoing tensions and warfare, as well as to lift the blockade imposed on the Strait of Hormuz. However, it is mentioned that final decisions on some sensitive issues are still pending. Iran, on the other hand, has not yet publicly confirmed any formal agreement. It is also reported that differing views have emerged in the statements of Iranian officials over the past 24 hours.
According to a US official, the proposed agreement has not yet been signed. The deal is still awaiting final approval from US President Donald Trump and Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. It is said that this process could take a few days.
Under the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened. In return, it is proposed that Iran agree to eliminate its stockpile of enriched uranium. However, officials stated that discussions are still ongoing regarding how to move this process forward.
It is reported that Trump wants the enriched material brought under US control. He stated via social media that he has instructed his representatives not to rush the deal.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that talks between the US and Iran are ongoing. According to him, the proposal includes keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and holding serious talks on Iran’s nuclear program within a specified timeframe.
Rubio stated that countries in the Gulf region are also supporting the plan. He mentioned that many nations around the world view this as a positive step. From the US perspective, this agreement could be in the interest of the global community, he noted.
Speaking to journalists during his visit to India, Rubio stated that Trump is in no hurry. Making it clear that they will not enter into a bad deal, he said that the US first wants to give diplomatic efforts a full opportunity, and only after that will other options be considered.
