Kathmandu: Prime Minister Balendra Shah held a telephone conversation with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Friday. According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, PM Shah emphasized the significance of communicating with his Australian counterpart during this challenging period in Nepal. He expressed gratitude to the Australian government and its citizens for their solidarity following the severe losses of life, property, and physical infrastructure caused by the massive flooding of the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa on August 26 (Bhadra 10).
PM Shah commended Australia’s assistance in rescue and relief operations, thanking the nation for deploying expert drone operators, sending essential relief materials, and providing financial aid. He also updated Prime Minister Albanese on the ongoing, intensified search operations for Australian citizens missing in Nepal due to the floods. Highlighting the long-standing friendly relations between Nepal and Australia, PM Shah affirmed that continuous coordination and collaboration would be maintained for search, rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. In response, Australian Prime Minister Albanese expressed deep concern and sympathy for the hardships Nepal is currently facing due to the disaster, according to the Secretariat.
