Kathmandu, June 5
Action will be taken against vehicles registered in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces for not installing embossed number plates within a month. As per the provision in Vehicle and Transport Management Rules 2054 BS, the transport department has given one month last chance to the vehicles registered in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces as the embossed number plate connection is not yet effective.
The department has issued a notice and issued a warning to start operations from July 20 if the number plates are not installed on the vehicles of these two states by mid-July. The government had on 7 October 2008 published a notice in the Nepal Gazette making it mandatory to install embossed number plates in a phased manner.
For this necessary infrastructure has been created at Ekantkuna-Lalitpur and Gurujudhara-Kathmandu in Bagmati and Transport Management Offices at Pokhara-Kaski in Gandaki.
It has been said in the notice that despite all the preparations, the attention of the department has been drawn to the fact that the decision to install embossed number plates on the vehicles registered in these offices has been implemented so far.
According to the Director General of the department Namraj Ghimire, according to the information published in the Gazette, from November, embossed number plate attachment was made mandatory only for registration of new vehicles and transfer of vehicle name. He said that from May 1, this rule has been implemented in the case of renewal of all vehicles, but due to weak implementation, this information has been issued.
“As embossed number plates have become mandatory in all types of vehicles legally, the department has urged to implement it effectively,” he said. The department has also decided to regulate whether it is implemented or not,” he said in an interaction with Tekpana.
The department has also directed the concerned transport offices to effectively carry out the work of installing embossed number plates on the vehicles registered in their offices.
