Chandra Prasad Dhakal, the esteemed President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and honorary consul of the Republic of Indonesia to Nepal, has been awarded the distinguished ‘Caraka Buwana Award’ by the Indonesian government. This accolade, bestowed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, recognizes individuals who have made substantial contributions to strengthening bilateral relations with the country.
The award was presented by Heru H. Subolo, the Indonesian Ambassador to Nepal, during a special ceremony held in Kathmandu. This recognition highlights Dhakal’s unwavering commitment to fostering tourism, cultural exchanges, and economic collaborations between Nepal and Indonesia. Ambassador Subolo commended Dhakal’s relentless efforts, stating, “President Dhakal’s dedication has profoundly enhanced the bond between our nations, fostering a spirit of collaboration that yields mutual benefits.”
In his acceptance speech, President Dhakal expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honor. He acknowledged the Indonesian government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, and the distinguished guests in attendance. Dhakal emphasized that this award serves as a catalyst for furthering the goal of mutual growth and prosperity between Nepal and Indonesia.
During the ceremony, Dhakal underscored the significance of two recent landmark agreements: the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism and the Visa Exemption Agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports. He noted that these agreements, which were signed on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, are pivotal for fortifying the partnership between the two nations. “I am particularly encouraged by these agreements,” he stated, “as they will not only strengthen diplomatic ties but also facilitate official travel and lay the groundwork for enhanced economic cooperation, tourism, and regional collaboration.”
Additionally, he highlighted the burgeoning interest among Nepalese travelers in visiting Indonesia, especially Bali, which has emerged as a favored destination. “The increasing number of Nepalese tourists visiting Bali is a testament to Indonesia’s stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage,” he remarked. Dhakal advocated for the implementation of an on-arrival visa facility for Nepalese tourists to further deepen cultural ties and bolster tourism.
This award marks a significant milestone in the ongoing journey of collaboration and friendship between Nepal and Indonesia, paving the way for a promising future. Notably, Dhakal was previously honored by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his contributions to rescue and relief efforts during the devastating earthquake in 2015. He has been serving as the honorary consul of Indonesia since 2010.
The ceremony was attended by ambassadors from various countries, high-ranking officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other dignitaries, all of whom celebrated Dhakal’s remarkable achievements and contributions to enhancing bilateral relations.
