The US military has reportedly seized a large container ship named ‘Tosca’ in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The vessel, measuring approximately 294 meters in length and 32.5 meters in width, was en route from China to Iran. It had departed from Port Klang, Malaysia, on April 12 and was heading toward the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas when the confrontation occurred.
According to reports from the US military, the crew of the vessel was given multiple warnings over a period of approximately six hours on Sunday. Washington officials stated that the ship was in violation of a declared blockade and was requested to halt its progress. The interception is part of a broader effort to enforce sanctions and maritime controls in the region.
When the vessel failed to comply with the instructions to stop, a US warship reportedly fired upon the ship, specifically targeting its engine room to disable its propulsion. Once the ship’s speed was neutralized, US soldiers boarded the vessel and took it into custody. The ‘Tosca’ currently remains under American control as regional tensions continue to escalate.
