Kathmandu – US President Donald Trump has once again come into the spotlight regarding his health condition. The 79-year-old Trump visited the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he underwent health examinations for about three hours. Following the check-up, Trump claimed on social media that his routine six-month health check was complete and that all results came back normal. As Trump attempts to present himself as an active and capable leader ahead of the upcoming US election, debates surrounding his age and health continue to grow.
The White House described the visit as a routine medical and dental examination. This marks Trump’s fourth public health check-up since becoming president for the second time. Trump is turning 80 next month, making him the oldest elected president in American history.
Previously, Joe Biden left the presidency at the age of 82. A public debate has now intensified in America regarding the political roles of aging leaders. The heightened focus on Trump’s health is due to the fact that physical and mental capacity are considered crucial for the US presidency. According to a recently published survey, less than half of American citizens believe that Trump is fully mentally and physically capable of handling the responsibilities of the president.
Former White House physician Dr. Jeffrey Kuhlman stated that, given Trump’s age, comprehensive cardiac examinations, cancer screenings, and cognitive assessments are necessary. However, the White House has not disclosed exactly which tests were conducted during Trump’s visit this time.
Trump, on the other hand, has consistently claimed that he feels as fit today as he did 50 years ago. Yet, he has occasionally appeared fatigued during public events. During some meetings, discussions sparked after he appeared to fall asleep with his eyes closed for an extended period, though Trump has denied this.
He is also reportedly very cautious about his public image. Trump himself has mentioned that he is highly careful when descending the stairs of Air Force One to prevent any photos of him tripping or falling from being made public.
Meanwhile, questions have repeatedly been raised regarding Trump’s mental capacity. He has maintained that he achieved excellent results in his cognitive tests. In a past evaluation, it was reported that he scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a test used to detect memory impairment and cognitive decline.
Nevertheless, his critics have interpreted Trump’s speeches and statements as signs of declining mental capacity. Last month, more than 30 neurologists and psychiatrists issued a joint statement expressing concern over Trump’s behavior. The White House, however, has dismissed those concerns, labeling them as politically motivated attacks.
