Kathmandu. Following the entry of the powerful typhoon ‘Dolphin’ into eastern China, more than 1 million people have been evacuated to safer locations from various areas, including Shanghai.
The typhoon entered Zhejiang province with wind speeds reaching up to 150 kilometers per hour. Due to the storm, over 1,400 flights have been canceled in Shanghai alone, and transportation services have been widely disrupted.
Authorities have advised high alert until Wednesday due to the risk of heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides across various regions of China.
Around 900,000 people in Wenzhou and 390,000 in Taizhou within Zhejiang province alone have been relocated to safe places.
Several tourist attractions in Shanghai have been closed due to the storm. It is estimated that Zhejiang could receive between 250 and 500 millimeters of rainfall over the coming days.
Before reaching China, ‘Dolphin’ also brought heavy rain and strong winds to the Philippines, Taiwan, and Okinawa in Japan. In the Philippines, eight people lost their lives due to the typhoon and heavy rains, while thousands of residents were moved to safety.
