Kathmandu, While Dubai’s Burj Khalifa currently holds the title of the world’s tallest building, a massive skyscraper under construction in neighboring Saudi Arabia is preparing to shatter that record. The Jeddah Tower, located in the Jeddah Economic City, is projected to stand over 1,000 meters (1 km) tall, significantly surpassing the Burj Khalifa’s height of 828 meters. Since construction resumed in early 2025 following a multi-year hiatus, the project has gained significant momentum, with approximately 80 floors already completed. According to recent reports, construction is now moving at a rapid pace, with a new floor being added every three to four days, and the entire project is expected to be finalized by 2028.
Once complete, the Jeddah Tower will be the first building in history to reach a height of one kilometer, standing nearly 180 meters taller than its Dubai rival. Originally named the Kingdom Tower, this architectural marvel is a centerpiece of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a strategic initiative led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to diversify the nation’s economy. The tower is designed to feature over 160 floors, including luxury residences, a Four Seasons hotel, high-end office spaces, and the world’s highest observation deck offering panoramic views of the Red Sea. Designed by Adrian Smith, the same architect behind the Burj Khalifa, the tower incorporates advanced sustainable technologies and high-speed elevators capable of traveling at 10 meters per second. Additionally, the Saudi government has expressed even bolder ambitions, with early plans already in motion for a “Rise Tower” in Riyadh that could potentially reach a height of two kilometers.
